Rookie's Root Beer Keeps Growing with GNG's Help

January 6, 2010
Vermont - Business Development

Dave and Jenny Rooke needed a vehicle for their growing root beer business. Good News Garage (GNG), a program of Lutheran Social Services, and Opportunities Credit Union made it happen.

They needed something that could transport barrels of Rookie's Root Beer over the Vermont mountains to their customers all year round,

The Rooke’s search took them to the GNG website where they found a 2005 Subaru for sale. Although the goal of GNG is to provide reliable cars to people in need, some vehicles, like the Subaru, are sold to support GNG program operations.

The next step was financing. GNG directed them to Opportunities Credit Union (OCU). The credit union’s focus on community development and affordable financial services for lower-income Vermonters made it an ideal partner for the transaction.

The Rookes are very happy with their Subaru and their experience with Good News Garage and Opportunities Credit Union. “Both companies offer sweet opportunity and excellent customer service, much like our own company,” shared co-owner, Dave Rooke.

If you would like to taste Rookies Root Beer, stop by American Flatbread, Bluebird Tavern, Pauline’s, Shelburne Farms, Sweetwaters, Muddy Waters, Skinny Pancake, Scuffer Steak and Ale, Healthy Living or New England Culinary Institute’s Main Street Grill.

The mission of Good News Garage is to create economic opportunity by providing affordable and reliable transportation options for people in need. GNG does this by accepting and repairing donated vehicles.

To donate your car, truck or van to Good News Garage visit www.goodnewsgarage.org. Good News Garage-Vermont accepts donated cars of all makes, models and years.
