Good News Garage NH, a program of Lutheran Social Services, is holding a Car Donation Day to celebrate the nation’s Tax Day, and to recognize the tax advantages of donating cars, vans and trucks to Good News Garage NH.
Good News Garage NH, located at 325 Merrill Street, will be open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm on April 15, 2010. Staff will gladly accept cars, vans, trucks, boats, RVs, motorcycles, and car accessories. Even if you don’t have a car to donate, you can help vehicle recipients by donating car items: ice scrapers, jumper cables, first aid kits, tire gauges, flashlights, window cleaner, paper towels and windshield washer fluid. Everyone who stops by the Good News Garage NH office on April 15 will receive refreshments and a flashlight keychain.
“Car Donation Day reminds New Hampshire residents of the tax benefits of donating cars, vans and trucks to Good News Garage and how our "wheels to work" program assists struggling local families,” said Bob Buckley, Good News Garage NH program manager. “Good News Garage is a win-win solution for everyone. Recipients are able to get to work and become financially self-sufficient, and donors receive a generous tax deduction – up to the vehicle’s fair market value if the vehicle is provided to a family. This deduction can be hundreds or even thousands of dollars greater than a vehicle’s potential trade-in value.”
Since 1996, Good News Garage has awarded more than 3,500 refurbished cars to low income families throughout New England; more than 600 to New Hampshire residents. Every vehicle awarded by Good News Garage has been donated and all donations qualify for a tax deduction ranging from $500 to fair market value. Potential car donors can start the car donation process online:
www.GoodNewsGarage.org, by calling toll-free: 877.448.3288 or in person at the Manchester office. Good News Garage will pick up or tow donated cars, vans and trucks free of charge!
Good News Garage has been featured on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and in People Magazine, Reader’s Digest and Smithsonian Magazine. Rick Hendrick of NASCAR fame is also an avid Good News Garage supporter.
But the true success of Good News Garage is expressed by the recipients: "This car has changed my life,” states Paula, a single working mother of four. "I can get to my job and get my kids to and from school without depending on anyone else."
