How We Help

The mission of Good News Garage (GNG) is to create economic opportunity by providing affordable and reliable transportation options to people in need. Programs are available in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Each state has specific guidelines for who qualifies to receive assistance. Please take the time to read through the information specific to the state in which you live. If after reviewing the information, you require additional information or think you meet application qualifications, please contact your regional GNG office. Wheels to Work

This program is inactive at this time. Most GNG clients in New Hampshire are referred by Division of Family Assistance (DFA) Family Service Specialists, New Hampshire Employment Program (NHEP) Employment Counselor Specialists, DFA State Office staff, or DFS-contracted staff providing post-employment services. All referrals for families currently receiving cash assistance and participating with NHEP must meet specific criteria.

All caseworkers should forward completed applications along with a copy of the client's New Hampshire driver's license to:

Qualified clients referred through a caseworker must meet the following requirements to qualify for a vehicle:

  • Applicant has a valid New Hampshire driver's license
  • Applicant must be participating in an approved work or training program
  • Applicant does not have any vehicle in the household and lacks access to transportation

Wheels to Work

GNG, in cooperation with the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC), provides refurbished donated vehicles to people with disabilities in Massachusetts who otherwise could not afford to purchase their own. Cars will be used to transport the client to employment. Qualified applicants must be a clients of MRC and must have a written Individual Plan for Employment.

Wheels to Work

GNG partners with the Economic Services Division to provide vehicles to participants in the Reach Up program of the Department of Children and Families.

To determine if you qualify, please contact your case manager at Reach Up. If you are eligible, you will be given an application to fill out and return to your case manager, who will then forward your application to our office for processing. You will be put on a waiting list for the Vermont county that you live in.

If you are at risk of losing your job due to lack of transportation, ask your case manager about Good News Garage's Ready To Go program (see below). Ready To Go covers the entire state of Vermont and provides rides to and from employment and to and from childcare so that you may continue to work.
Ready To Go
Ready To Go is a transportation program for individuals and families in Vermont that uses donated minivans for clients to access essential life activities, including jobs, job training and childcare. Ready To Go provides more than 30,000 rides annually across the state of Vermont and works in partnership with the Vermont Department for Children and Families, Economic Services Division to provide this service.

Child Safety Seat Fitting Station
GNG has two certified child safety seat technicians who are available to assist parents and caregivers on the proper selection, installation, and use of their car seats. To schedule an appointment for a safety seat inspection or installation call 877.GIVE.AUTO (877.448.3288).

JumpStart in MA, ME, NH, and VT
Please note, this program is on hold at this time. We hope to be on the road again soon. Please check back. Individuals who do not meet the criteria for our state-funded programs may qualify for a vehicle through our JumpStart Program.
